#032 - Alex Ivanov - Produce Publish Promote - 7 steps to publish a book

Alex is a published author, teacher on Udemy, public speaker, business coach and SW engineer. He used to be a shy SW engineer but has learned through reading, public speaking and coaching to overcome his shy personality. For the last 45 days he is changing his life and wants to bring more of his learnings to the world. To do so he is about to launch his new website and create more content on video and in book format and lately offering in person coaching to his portfolio.

3 Words to describe him:

  • Charismatic
  • Driven
  • Authentic

Colour Red: Representing power. A power that he feels now but hasn’t felt as a kid.

2 secrets not many know about. One is that both his parents are Chess Champions in the US. As far as he knows no one has both parents with the trophy. The second one is him being a pool shark. He loves to play in bars and meet and connect with people over a game of pool. Especially beating the local heroes and surprising them. His biggest and fondest memory playing pool is the time that he announced a difficult shot and made it. That earned him a lot of applause and a night of free drinks.

3 Pool playing tips:

  1. Watch videos, read books or get someone really good to learn from
  2. Practice a lot
  3. Expose to pressure where you need to win. E.g. in a league
  4. Play on a snooker table to improve your game
  5. Learn to play defence (Don’t play it too obvious)

Creativity:

Alex considers himself a creative but not before his mid 30’s. There he learned Mind Mapping Mastery by Barry Mapp on Udemy.com. Ever since he uses Mind Maps for everything and anything. E.g. Presentations, To-Do Lists, book planning etc. The more he practiced the faster he got in getting good ideas on paper, or in digital format.

Creativity Killer:

Number one big time is too much stress. If you don’t know how to reduce stress then you can’t be creative. A little stress is good but too much is bad. Alex is focusing on things that bring him joy to reduce his stress.

His signature Class on the “7 Step process for how to become a published author” for busy people

  1. Brainstorming, mind-mapping on ideas. Figure out your topic and create the outline, skeleton.
    • If you can interview your audience upfront on their issues to get more ideas
  2. Either write, audio record or create a video
  3. Strip the audio from the video. Hire someone to transcribe the audio (fiverr) or use www.veed.io to create subtitles that you then download
  4. Hire someone to create a catchy Book title (fiverr)
  5. Get a graphic designer. Good looking books sell better. (fiverr)
  6. Clean up the script and compile it and then export in kindle format and PDF for print. Use Scrivener to do so
  7. Upload on amazon (KDP Kindle Direct Publishing)

Advice:

He wished that he started reading earlier than at the age of 27-28.

Read and listened to a lot of productivity and self-improvement books.

If you want to read more consume audiobooks instead of music on your commute
