For todays interview I got Jass Malaney a Leadership Coach & Keynote Speaker, on the microphone.
We meet over LinkedIN and immediately had some good chat going on. With her 20 years of experience in Leadership coaching and keynote speaking she brings a lot to the table for anyone that wishes to grow.
Describes herself as:
- Inquisitive, loving to learn and looking at things in different perspectives
- Reuse what she learns in different ways and combinations
- Loves to travel
- Self Motivated and driven
- Leadership coach. With 20 years experience.
- Keynote speaker
Color: The colours she identifies with have changed a few times during her life. For the last few months she feels connected to gold. For her it represents abundance and positive energy. Before gold she was connected to the colour of nature; green.
Her secret that not many know are: Elephant figures. It started with her thinking of the coaching business, and the statement that stuck with her was “Work with leaders that are majestic”. Thinking of that statement she had a vision of an elephant. And that is when she started collecting the little figures.
As a kid she was very active and played many sports. Mainly as basketball and hockey.
After school she got very fortunate and got an intern job at the world bank working with top economists. A super learning working space that shaped her life. A competitive working culture where everyone was striving to do the best. At times this has been hard for Jass. That is when her fathers words “You have always a choice” gave her support and strength. The full support from her father to try out, do or not do and even when failing gave her strength and security to choose.
If there is something with a real challenge then Jass will put all in to make it a success.
Other topics we touched during the interview:
- We have to fail to grow.
- Self motivation to have drive
- Many Millenias are looking for motivation from the outside
- Compete and compare yourself with how you were yesterday
- Understanding yourself, take proactive action
- Each of us has talents, combine it with what brings you joy. Use introspection, Look at yourself, who is your best friend? Find the joy, then do more of the same, get better at it until it is your professional skill and you can stand out.
- Her experiences on typical obstacles and how she helped team leaders, managers etc to lead better. How to move from working in hell to work in heaven.
- A general issue is over-control and limiting believes. How to learn to “Let go”
- Stories from how she helped one individual with coaching and by doing so helped 100s if not 1000s to have a better work environment.
- “If you squeeze an orange, orange juice comes out.” If you squeeze people really hard, their authentic personality is coming to the surface.
Creativity:
One form or another. Find new ways to come out of problems.
Requires an open mind. We can find creative, innovative ways for anything in life.
We do not always need a new creative way of solving problems, sometimes the old ways are good enough.
What is a coach doing?
- Coaching is a helping profession
- Using a structured path, procedure
- Coaches don’t give advice
- Help the clients to see and explore for themselves.
- Being a reflective board for the client
- Help highlighting what is the problem. What the problem is and how to solve it.
- Create an awareness
What makes people happy:
- Inspire, helping and to see others grow
- It is a journey where you remove layers that you don’t need anymore
- A journey to find your authentic you
- Giving. 1st person you have to give is yourself
- To be happy for whatever comes your way is a learned attitude
Advice:
“It is ok that we don’t have all the answers”
Be vulnerable. The earlier you learn the better.
Call for action:
Get a coach if you need help. Coaches help you to grow faster.
